Resort Information
Châtel is a traditional, picturesque and atmospheric French mountain village, that retains its authenticity despite the presence of tourism. You won't find the high-rise buildings here that you see elsewhere in France. The village boasts a cozy atmosphere and access to a broad range of ski areas.
Châtel is a fairly spacious village that has two 'centres'. The main centre has many cozy restaurants, shops and bars. The Dutch-run 'Crazy Lion' après-ski bar is a firm favourite. There is also a skating rink and various walking routes. In the Linga area there is another (smaller) centre with more bars and restaurants. There is a free ski bus that frequently runs throughout the village between the two centres.
From behind the hotel you can take a lift that provides a quick connection to the central part of the Châtel ski area. From the Linga centre there is another lift that allows access to Pré-la-Joux and which connects to the Avoriaz area.
There is a hands-free electronic skipass system (for which you will need to pay a deposit of approx. € 3).
Les Portes du Soleil Winter Sports Area
Les Portes du Soleil ski area consists of approx. 650 kilometers of pistes, spread over France and Switzerland. There is a total of 209 drag and chair lifts. Each year the ski area is developed and modernised with faster chair lifts and cabine lifts. There is generally very little waiting time for lifts, even in the busiest periods. This is due to the very large ski area and large choice of lifts.
The area offers a great deal of possibilities for skiers and boarders of all levels. There are lovely blue pistes for beginners and intermediates. Those with more experience are offered plenty of challenges, including the super-fast black piste 'La Mure'. There is also a 7km red piste that is situated in the Swiss side of Les Portes du Soleil.
There are diverse fixed routes available In Les Portes du Soleil for skiers and boarders of all levels to try out. An excellent way of getting to know the area.
There are various halfpipes and snowparks for snowboarders in the area.
Due to its high altitude, Les Portes du Soleil is a very snow-sure area. But just to be sure, there are also snow cannons available to ensure that you always can enjoy a white piste!
